Hemiplegia
In the management of Hemiplegia The Hemiplegia is the sequelae of pathological events, which takes place in the central nervous system. The underlying pathology may be different such as Cerebro-Vascular Accidents (CVA), neoplasms, infections, etc. but paralysis is a common symptom. The degree and extent of neurological deficit depends upon the location and extension of damage to the brain cells. In certain cases along with motor deficits, disturbance of speech (aphasia or dysarthria) and loss of higher functions are also observed. The disease has been discussed in Ayurveda under Vatavyadhi neurological disorder. The terms Paksaghata, Paksha Vadha and Ekanga Vata have been used to describe hemiplegia in Ayurveda. The treatment schedule consists of two main approaches Shodhana - schedule through Panchakarma procedure and Samana - general medical management. The effect of Snehapana, svedana, vireka, bastikarma, nasya and Sirobasti with different medicated oils was studied under Sodhana. The Samana therapy with medicated oils and herbo mineral preparations were also done. Sastikasali pinda sveda was given as Svedana therapy and its role in the management of Paksaghata was studied.
